Upcoming Meetings

Our June Meeting:

When: Monday, June 9, 5:30 pm to 7 pm with dinner at the farm afterwards

Where: Tamarack Farm in Spring Mills

Cost: $15 pp, no charge for kids ($12 for the dinner and $3 to go into our Slow Food coffer)

Who and what will be there: We are invited to help Janice Jenkins and Michael Arthur do their evening farm chores and get ready for the Tuesday market in Boalsburg. In addition to raising vegetables, daughters and a dog, Tamarack Farm specializes in Icelandic sheep and in spinning their wool into beautiful yarn for fashioning into garments. Jan and Mike will also provide us with a simple farm supper, consisting of whatever is available--and Elk Creek Aleworks beer

What to bring: comfortable footwear and clothing for doing some farm chores. Some wine to share, if you prefer that. Anything else you feel would complement a supper of grilled Cow-a-Hen sausages, salad, bread, and a rhubarb dessert.

Directions via the scenic route: Take 322 East to Potters Mills and take a left there on Route 144. Go to Lower Georges Valley Road and take a right. Take that road all the way to Penns Creek Road, crossing PCR to Beaver Dam. Take a left on Immel Road. The phone number at the farm is 422-8041.

RSVP: to Anne aqc6@psu.edu by Saturday, June 7 or call 865-7431 so they can get in the provisions

Our July Meeting:

When: Tuesday, July 1 from 9 am until about 5 pm

Where: Sigel, PA (near Brookville)

Cost: no charge for the farm tours but lunch at the Triple C Bison Grill will be $10 and the nearby Quiet Creek Herb Farm gift shop will be open for business

Who and what will be there: Crystal Neill, proprietress of the Triple C Bison Grill will give us a tour of her family's farm where they have raised bison since 1990. Currently the herd is 50 strong. After lunch at the Grill, we'll head to the neighbors', Rusty and Claire Orner, and tour Quiet Creek Herb Farm and School of Country Living <www.quietcreekherbfarm.com>

What to bring: Money for lunch, money for shopping at the herb shop, gas money (let's carpool!)
